Finding Nina: A Journey to North Dakota

The project began when MacInnes purchased two photo albums at an antiques mall in Denver. He was intrigued by the images and wanted to learn more about the photographer, Nina Weiste, and the places she photographed in the Jim (James) River area of Dickey County where she lived. That interest led to more than a dozen trips to North Dakota to spend time in the environments of Nina’s photographs, to take his own pictures of things he imagined she might have seen, to photograph the people who now occupy Nina’s landscape, and to try to understand how the landscape and people have changed, or not changed. MacInnes’ book about the “Finding Nina” project is scheduled for release in 2017.

MacInnes teaches photography at the University of Denver. Visit his website for more info: http://roddymac.com/home.html.
