National Library Week – April 13-19, 2008

What is more important in a library than anything else –

than everything else — is the fact that it exists.

~Archibald MacLeish, “The Premise of Meaning,” American Scholar, 5 June 1972

It’s National Library Week

This year, National Library Week marks its 50th anniversary with the theme “Join the circle of knowledge @ your library.” All types of libraries — school, public, academic and special — participate.  National Library Week is sponsored by ALA (American Library Association) and libraries across the country to honor the contributions of our nation’s libraries and librarians and to promote library use and support.

On Thursday, April 17, the BSC Library will host an open house celebration from 10 a.m. to noon.  At 10:30 a.m., we will unveil our newly refurbished card catalog display and also honor Dr. Wayne Boekes, who recognized its value and helped us with funding for the project.

Stop by to see the display and to enjoy some refreshments with us.

Notice – Network Outage – Weekend of April 18

There will be a network outage at BSC starting at 4:15 p.m. on Friday, April 18, as Information Services moves the computer center to a new location.  The outage will continue until all campus fiber has been extended and until servers and networking equipment have been re-connected to the new fiber and tested.  Information Services hopes to have services restored by the start of the business day on Monday, April 21.

The reason for the move is to allow contractors to continue the asbestos abatement process and construction in the area where IT offices are now located.

During the outage, ALL network services will be unavailable.  Network services include connecting to BSC’s campus network and to the Internet with video, networked printers, networked computers, wireless connections, etc.

Buildings impacted by this outage are:

  • Library
  • Swensen Hall
  • Werner Hall
  • Student Union
  • Jack Science Center
  • Allied Health Campus
  • Leach Music Center
  • Mandan Campus
  • Schafer Hall
  • Sykes Success Center
  • Technical Center
  • Annex
  • Horizon Office Building

National Library Week Open House — Save the Date!

In honor of National Library Week, April 13-19, 2008, the BSC Library will host a special open house celebration on Thursday, April 17, from 10 a.m. to noon.  At 10:30 a.m., we will unveil our newly refurbished card catalog display.

Since 1958, National Library Week has been a time to celebrate the contributions of our nation’s libraries and librarians and to promote library use and support.

National Library Workers Day has been part of National Library Week since 2003 and will be observed on Tuesday, April 15.   NLWD is a day for library staff, users, administrators, and Friends groups to recognize the valuable contributions made by all library workers.

Hope to see you at the BSC Library on April 17!
