New Stuff!

We have a new way of alerting you about New Stuff that’s been added to the BSC Library collection.  On the main library page, you will see a “New Stuff” graphic.  Click on it to link to new materials that have been added to the collection.

The links are organized by Library of Congress subject classification and by format, and will be updated monthly.

You can also find a New Stuff category on our blog.

Winter Wreath Decorating Contest

All BSC employees and students are invited to participate in a . . . .

Winter Wreath Decorating Contest

Sponsored by the Visual Arts Dept.

To reserve a wreath, call or e-mail Barbara.Jirges@bsc.nodak.edu; 224-5601.  Wreaths can be picked up at Barb’s office, 101 Werner Hall, from Tuesday, November 18, through Thursday, November 20.

Bring your decorated wreath to the BSC Library by Wednesday, November 26.  The wreaths will be displayed at the library through Friday, December 19.

There will be voting for a “People’s Choice Award” (gift certificate to the winner) and the wreaths will be sold through silent auction.  Bidding will close on December 15 at 4 p.m.

Silent auction proceeds will go toward the Spring Visual Arts Student Trip.

NewsBank Adds Video Content

Check out the latest enhancement to NewsBank, one of the library’s databases.  NewsBank offers access to 100 million+ U.S. and international newspaper articles and has now added video news content.

Users can:

  • Play news videos within the NewsBank interface, in the same space used to display text articles
  • Select specific videos from a comprehensive results lists that also includes NewsBank articles, or restrict the search to “video only”
  • Access recent and archived news videos
  • Email links of specific videos to friends, or embed them in presentations

This new content will be added in stages. A short advertisement that can be immediately closed by users will appear prior to each video. Please note that a free Flash plug-in is required to play these videos and can be downloaded.  Your default settings will not be affected in any way.

Note:  If you access the library’s databases from a non-campus computer, you will be prompted to authenticate with your library card number (barcode number on the back of your BSC photo ID) and your password (your last name).
