National Library Week – April 12-18

It’s National Library Week!  You are invited to celebrate with us on Wednesday, April 15, for a “last hurrah” in our current building.NLW

We have a lot to celebrate! Before our big move to a new building this summer, we are looking back on many years and accomplishments. Join us as we reminisce:

  • A tabletop display of library scrapbooks and articles about the original construction of this building.
  • A running slide show featuring the people who have worked in this building as well as events that have taken place in the library over the years. The slide show will also include photos of the construction and remodeling of our current building.
  • Technology permitting, we may also run a few old films that chronicle some events from BSC’s past.
  • Starting at 11a.m., we will have cookies and lemonade (while supplies last!)

National Library Week is a time to highlight the value of libraries, librarians, and library workers. First sponsored in 1958, it is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April.

2015 BSC Campus Read:  The Circle by Dave Eggers

Are you in or are you out?Circle

“When Mae Holland is hired to work for the Circle, the world’s most powerful internet company, she feels she’s been given the opportunity of a lifetime. The Circle, run out of a sprawling California campus, links users’ personal emails, social media, banking, and purchasing with their universal operating system, resulting in one online identity and a new age of civility and transparency. As Mae tours the open-plan office spaces, the towering glass dining facilities, the cozy dorms for those who spend nights at work, she is thrilled with the company’s modernity and activity. There are parties that last through the night, there are famous musicians playing on the lawn, there are athletic activities and clubs and brunches … Mae can’t believe her luck, her great fortune to work for the most influential company in the world — even as life beyond the campus grows distant, even as a strange encounter with a colleague leaves her shaken, even as her role at the Circle becomes increasingly public. What begins as the captivating story of one woman’s ambition and idealism soon becomes a heart-racing novel of suspense, raising questions about memory, history, privacy, democracy, and the limits of human knowledge.”
